Meal Plan June 1-6

Meal Plan MondayAs you’ll notice I only have meals planned for breakfast and dinner, so let me explain why.  First, my husband and I are the only ones I plan on feeding because Judah isn’t old enough to eat adult food yet. Second, A is on vacation for the next 2 weeks and instead of preparing 3 meals a day, I am going to prepare a late breakfast and dinner.

Also, I try to eat as whole and organically as possible so I often tweak the recipes to my liking nutritionally.

Breakfast:  Bagels

Dinner:  Creamy Chicken Casserole, Green Beans

Breakfast:  Cereal

Dinner:  Chicken Risotto, Roasted Roma Tomatoes, Salad

Breakfast:  Biscuits & Gravy

Dinner:  Egg Salad Sandwiches, Chips

Breakfast:  Breakfast Tacos                                                                                     Dinner:  Sloppy Joes on homemade buns, Creamed Potatoes & Peas

Breakfast: Buttermilk Pancakes                                                                           Dinner:  Pizza Pockets, Salad

Saturday:                                                                                                                       Breakfast:  Applesauce Bread

Dinner: BBQ at Friend’s House  – I’m bringing quacamole, chips & flan

Meal Plan Mondays

Meal Plan MondayMenu Planning.  This is something I secretly long to be great at but presently have to put a lot of work into.  I first saw the idea on a few blogs I frequent, which means I am really new to the concept of planning out my meals and my corresponding grocery list.  Early on I would just go to the grocery store and buy what I wanted and thought I needed then tried to create meals out of what I had, which usually resulted in not creative and not delicious meals.  My husband jokes that I used to eat just to survive.  Meaning my food had little variety and little taste.  And I will admit, he is right!  But recently (within the last year) I have been purposing to become a kitchen dweller (I love that phrase) and boy is it taking me a lot of work.  The kitchen is not my native habitat!!!  I love to clean house but cooking I have always said is just not my thing.  Well, God had other plans for me as a wife and He wasn’t going to let me stay that way.  He showed me that I have to stop saying that cooking is just not my thing and start believing in myself.  He has ignited a desire in me to want to be a great meal-maker and I now find myself getting excited about new recipes I can try out.  Yes, I am a recipe girl.  I have all my recipes & favorite sites on my computer and when it’s time to cook – you’ll find me checking the computer often.  I hope to one day create my own delicacies but for now recipes will do.  I am hoping that by borrowing the idea of Meal Plan Mondays from many awesome blogs that I will grow in my ability to plan creative & tasty meals to feed my family.  Journey with me and I will share my plans and always give credit to where I found my recipes.  Bon Appetit!

products  I am in search of a makeup line that is both non-toxic and affordable.  I used to use Bare Minerals and am currently using Physicians Formula Organics.  Both were okay but Bare Minerals seemed to run out quickly and I don’t really like the coverage of P.F. Organics.  Last night I was watching What Not To Wear and they were making over Mayim Bialik from Blossom and knowing that she is very health conscience (even vegan I think) I looked up what they used on her.  I discovered that Carmindy created her own line of makeup that they are using on the show called Natural Beauty which can be found online, at Sally Hansen and CVS.  I looked it up and it is paraben (a group of chemicals used as preservatives) free and uses a lot of natural (aloe, bamboo, etc.) elements.  I often refer to the Environmental Working Group and Skin Deep web pages to check the safety of products but this one wasn’t on there.  So I am wondering if the line is just “natural” – using some natural elements or actually non-toxic.  I’ll need to do a bit more research.  My question to whomever may read this is:  Have you found a makeup line that is non-toxic and affordable?  Or have you used Natural Beauty?

I have this funny thought in my head as I write this:  The best non-toxic and affordable make up line is “All-Natural” or Bare Faced (meaning no makeup at all), but I don’t think I am really wanting to go sans-makeup.  Other’s might appreciate that too! 🙂

Woman's eyeI am on a study about womanhood in the Bible.  I am trying to find every verse I can on what the Bible says about being a woman, wife and mom.  I have started by reading Proverbs (and now I want to do a study on Proverbs next – such amazing life wisdom) and will most likely head to Titus next and then use some study tools to find other chapters and verses on this subject.

I am seeing how high of a calling it is to be a woman, wife and mom – something that I clearly had no concept of before.  I think in our culture there is a pressure to want to be these things but to not put all our effort into them.  But I have heard it said that “what you put into something is what you will get out of it.”  If that is true, which I believe it is, then my (women’s) focus needs to be on my home and family. That has to be my priority and where my attention, time and effort go.  Years of thoughts want to battle this God-concept and draw me towards other things that seem more “self-fulfilling” but as I read God’s word His true calling for me as a women gets ignited.

Here’s some verses that I have been reading and chewing on – and not everything is easy to chew on 🙂

Proverbs 18-19:  “Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you.  Rejoice in the wife of your youth.  She is a loving deer, a graceful doe.  Let her breasts satisfy you always.  May you always be captivated by her love.” (New Living Translation)

Proverbs 11:16: A gracious and good woman wins honor [for her husband], and violent men win riches but a woman who hates righteousness is a throne of dishonor for him.” (Amplified)

Proverbs 11:22: “Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion (the quality of being discreet, esp. with reference to one’s own actions or speech; prudence or decorum; wisdom).” (New International Version)

Proverbs 12:4: “A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.”   (New International Version)

Proverbs 14:1:  “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”  (New International Version)

Wow!  Those are some weighty words.  God, give me the grace to live up to what you have called me to be.

Going on 3 Years

weddingOn June 16 I will have been married to my wonderful husband Aaron for 3 years.  The old adage that “time flies” is oh so true.  Our first year of marriage was a time of adjustment.  We had our biggest fights and we both learned so much about each other.  Our second year we were both committed to discovering how to have a Biblical marriage.  We read a lot of books together and focused on communicating our needs and thoughts – that wasn’t always easy seeing how we’re both pretty opinionated, but we learned.   Our third year ushered in the purchase of our first home and our first son, Judah.  Aside from those great experiences, our third year of marriage has been about putting into practice what we have learned over the last two years about marriage and each other.  Now, I realize that it’s only been 3 years and that’s a drop in the bucket compared to the years we have ahead of us, but I am proud of where God has brought us and it is only by His grace that we are here.  Now I find myself not so focused on how to better my marriage as a couple, but how to better myself as a wife.  What does God say about being a wife, mom, and keeper of my home.  So this is the journey I am on.  And I am excited about discovering God’s purpose for me in this, but also feel the weight of re-learning the truth about womanhood from God’s perspective.

Hello Blog World!

Welcome to my blog.  Wow, I actually have a blog – feels so strange to say that.  Up until a few months ago I had never even read a blog (shocking, I know).  A friend of mine referred me to one and I slowly started reading and little by little I have discovered other blogs (see my blogroll) that have impacted me and encouraged me on my journey as a wife and mom.  I had no desire to start my own blog and was perfectly content learning from others but then one day something in me thought to document all that God is speaking to me and all that I am learning on having a home that is pure and simple.  So it is out of that line of thought that Home Pure and Simple was created.  I hope that I can impact and inspire others on this journey just as so many awesome wives and moms have impacted and inspired me.
